CMO does not know if a new modification is more dangerous
On Sunday 20 December on BBC One’s Andrew Marr show, Dr Hopkins said more information is needed to conclude how serious the new variant tension is.
However, Doctor explained that the modification (mutation) occurs in the virus at whole times, with the first detection of this mutant coronavirus recognised in October.

Dr Hopkins Statement
“We alerted the government to this fact on Friday, and immediately, the government started to take action,” said Dr Hopkins.
Asked if the new variant is truly 70 per cent more contagious, Drs. Hopkins stated they would be “refining the projections this week”.
Currently, transmission capacity estimates are based on modelling and data over the prior few weeks.

However, it is clearly evident that the new version had a “higher viral load”, which enhances the transmission capacity.
Even after the COVID mutant is more infectious, it is “not quite the case” that public will become more sick because of it.
